Templates on Ebay Etc.
Please be aware that many people on Ebay are selling templates for Strats and Les Pauls that are totally inaccurate. I get questions about this all the time as people seem to think I should help them with their home builds. I actually wouldn't mind but rarely have time to answer. I do not want to comment on anyone's work in particular. However I've seen what is out there and I have never .. repeat never, seen a "vintage spec" template that is what it claims to be. This is something people just do not share. This is not rocket science. Any good builder can make templates from a real guitar. Real easy on a strat, harder on an LP. But it is a lot of work and those who do it regard it as a trade secret. Those who flog them on Ebay are likely flogging inaccurate versions on purpose to protect their "real" templates, or perhaps they are hack builders who cannot make money any other way (than sell you $20 inaccurate templates). Just how it is. Again, I could mention a few names but I wont. Suffice it to say I know of not a single source for accurate templates for either the "62" strat, "52" tele or "59" Les Paul, which seem to be what is marketed most. This includes "forum" celebrities whom are the most guilty parties to this nonsense. I myself do not sell templates of any kind.
